Kew Gardens Farm-To-Table Group Begins Second Season

The Kew Gardens CSA kicks off its second year on Sunday, June 10th, 2018.

“Last summer was great,” organizer and founding member Kevin Burns said, “but we really want to get the word out to the greater Kew Gardens, Richmond Hill and Briarwood communities. Sustainable, organic, direct-from-farm vegetables and fruit is here to stay.”

CSA, which stands for Community Supported Agriculture, is a model which involves members picking up, either weekly or bi-weekly, a large box of seasonal vegetables grown on local farms. For Kew Gardens, vegetables are provided from the Garden of Eve, an organic family farm in nearby Riverhead, Long Island. (Fruits, cheese, flowers and eggs and homemade beer are also available for an extra charge.)

Pick-ups are conducted Sunday mornings from June 10th into mid-November in Kew Gardens Cinema park, at the corner of Lefferts Boulevard and Austin Street. “We’re received a lot of support in the community,” Laura Feldman Hay, one of the group leaders, said.

Christopher Blosser, a member, said the CSA was a welcome addition to the neighborhood. “It brings together those with a common interest in healthy cooking and social justice, providing an opportunity to become acquainted with (and have a financial share in) a local organic farm,” he said. “There are CSA’s in other parts of Queens, but having one operating from Kew Gardens is convenient for us as well as our neighbors.”
